Philippa Webb Lectures at Georgetown University Law Centre
On 9 April, Dr Philippa Webb delivered a lecture at Georgetown University Law Centre on dispute settlement and law of the sea.
She spoke to the international law class about the role of the International Court of Justice in recent maritime delimitation cases, drawing on insights from her time working as Legal Officer to the President of the ICJ (2006-2009).
.
Philippa discussed the competing claims in the South China Sea and prospects for their resolution."The 31 March 2014 ICJ decision on Whaling in the Antarctic (Australia v Japan, New Zealand intervening) sparked a good discussion with the students about treaty interpretation and the ICJ's use of scientific evidence" she said.
Georgetown University Law Centre is a founding partner, along with King's College London, of the Centre for Transnational Legal Studies.
