Professor Türk wins Supervisory Excellence Award

Alex Türk, Professor of Law, has won the 2014 Supervisory Excellence Award for The Dickson Poon School of Law.

The award defines ‘supervisory excellence’ as encapsulating, among other traits:

  • Commitment to pastoral care of PhD supervisees
  • History of past supervisory success, e.g. ensuring submission of theses in three years (full time)
  • Engagement with personal and professional development of supervisees, (which could be demonstrated through the activities students participate in during their studies, their career progression, publications, quality of research project etc)

Turk_AlexProfessor Türk was praised for being approachable and providing constructive and enthusiastic feedback. His pastoral role was also appreciated 'he has given guidance both on my research project and in my pursuit of an academic career' said one student.

Professor Vaughan Robinson, Director of the Graduate School said 'now that the Supervisory Excellence Awards have become embedded within College life we received an exceptional set of nominations. This says a great deal about the dedication of King's PhD supervisors and the esteem in which their students hold them. It was extraordinarily difficult to select the winners. They will now help us spread best practice during the coming academic year.’

‘It is a great privilege to supervise PhD students and to educate the next generation of academics within the vibrant community of The Dickson Poon School of Law. I am grateful to my students, past and present, to be part of their journey' Professor Türk said.
