Dickson Poon has received a knighthood in the 2015 New Year Honours list, announced on 31 December.

The Hong Kong based philanthropist donated a gift of £20 million to the former School of Law at King’s, the largest donation from an individual in the College’s history and the largest ever to a British or European law faculty.  The School was renamed The Dickson Poon School of Law in 2012 in recognition of Dr Poon.

Dickson Poon is Group Executive Chairman of The Dickson Group of Companies and was knighted for services to business and to charity, particularly his ardent support of higher education.

The New Year Honours is a part of the British honours system, with New Year's Day, 1 January, being marked by naming new members of orders of chivalry and recipients of other official honours.

Four members of King's staff also received honours. Find out more on the university's news pages
