Herbert Smith Freehills Competition Law Moot
The Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London hosted the Herbert Smith Freehills Competition Law Moot in June 2015. The Moot was generously sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills.
20 teams registered to participate and the organising committee received written submissions from 19 teams representing institutions from Spain, France, Estonia, Hong Kong, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Singapore and the UK.
Over the weekend of 12-14 June 2015 the oral round of the competition was held in both Somerset House East Wing, the home of The Dickson Poon School of Law, and the Competition Appeal Tribunal. The final between the National University of Singapore (who beat King’s in the semi-finals) and the University of Amsterdam (who beat Hong Kong University in the semi-finals) was held in Court 1 of the Competition Appeal Tribunal before a panel of seven judges (Baskaran Balasingham (PhD Candidate, King’s; Legal Researcher, CMA), William Allan (Member, Competition Appeal Tribunal), Heikki Kanninen (Judge, General Court), Dorothy Livingston (Consultant, Herbert Smith Freehills), William Kovacic (Professor, George Washington University and Visiting Professor at King's), Alison Jones (Professor, King’s) and Kevin Coates (Head of Unit,Cartels, European Commission). The National University of Singapore were announced the winners of the final with a unanimous decision by the distinguished tribunal.
Lisa Tan of National University of Singapore received the award for the Best Oralist and Hong Kong University was the recipient of the award for Best Memoranda.
