King's experts on Climate Change ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference

Environmental Law experts from The Dickson Poon School of Law, including Dean Professor D Caron, have written new articles for the Journal of Environmental Law blog ahead of the United Nations Climate Change conference to be held in Paris later this year.

The articles explore the problems associated with climate change adjudication from a variety of perspectives. The article from Kings' Dr Eloise Scotford and Dr Emily Barritt opens up a conversation about how the problem of climate change should be understood. They argue that only by understanding the nature of the problem will it be possible to develop a long-lasting legal response to climate change.

‘Climate change and self-adapting law’ by Professor David D Caron asks ‘How would the law look different if we had always known about climate change?’ In response to this question he explains that climate change law might have been developed to be self-adapting. Self-adapting laws have an in-built measure of flexibility so that in the context of climate change, law can be designed to intentionally accommodate changes in the environment.

The Dickson Poon School of law has a number academics working in the field of environmental law and offers an undergraduate option on environmental law led by Dr Eloise Scotford.
