Migration Crisis
As hundreds of thousands of people cross the Mediterranean in an attempt to move to European countries, the world is facing what has been described as the greatest humanitarian crisis of our times.
The Yeoh Tiong Lay Centre for Politics Philosophy & Law and the Department of Philosophy hosted a multidisciplinary discussion on the Migration Crisis on Tuesday 8 December. The public event brought together a panel of experts to explore some of the political, philosophical, legal and policy questions that emerge in the context of this mass movement of people across continents.
Four speakers from different disciplines joined the debate:
- Cathryn Costello, Andrew W Mellon Associate Professor of International Human Rights and Refugee Law, and a fellow of St Antony's College, Oxford
- Sarah Fine, Lecturer in Philosophy, King's
- Matthew J. Gibney, Professor of Politics and Forced Migration at the University of Oxford, Official Fellow of Linacre College, Oxford, and Deputy Director of the Refugee Studies Centre
- Maya Mailer, Head of Humanitarian Policy and Campaigns, Oxfam.
