Catharine MacMillan appointed Professor of Law

The Dickson Poon School of Law is delighted to announce the appointment of Catharine MacMillan as Professor of Law. Professor MacMillan will join King’s College London in summer 2016.

Professor MacMillan's main research interests are in private law, with an emphasis on the historical development of the common law in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. She is particularly interested in the influence of different legal doctrines and rules in the shaping of the common law. In connection with this interest she is currently working on a legal biography of Judah Benjamin and is also involved in various projects concerned with the history of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

Professor MacMillan previously held posts at the University of Reading and Queen Mary University of London and before this practised law in Vancouver, Canada.

She has an outstanding reputation as a world leading scholar on the legal history of English contract law and is an exceptionally experienced and able teacher of contract and commercial law.’
