The Student Law Society Awards is an annual event that recognises the dedication of student committees across the country offering their members innovative careers events and comprehensive pro bono and mooting activities, alongside more traditional opportunities to socialise with their peers.

The KCL Mooting Society won the award for Best Mooting Activities and the KCL Pro Bono Society won the Best Pro Bono Activities award, beating off competition from societies at Cardiff and Sheffield University’s and Queen Mary and UEA respectively.

The awards ceremony, held at Painters’ Hall in London, brought together students, recruiters, partners and trainees with the LawCareers.Net team for a networking-rich presentation.

Emily Lawson, President of the KCL Mooting Society said: ‘I am absolutely over the moon as the committee and I have worked very hard this year, so it is lovely to have been recognised for it at a national level.’

Josanne Harper, President of the KCL Pro Bono Society said ‘[This is an] incredibly gratifying recognition of the Society’s work in sourcing a myriad of professional, educational and volunteering opportunities for students. The committee sincerely takes to heart students’ request for opportunities to engage with leading practitioners in non-commercial fields, to improve their practical and professional skills, and to make a real impact in the wider community. As the award was in part based on the votes of our members, this is real validation that the Society is in touch with the needs of the student body. It has also been a point of significant personal pride for me. To have led the charge as the society received this honour for the first time in my final year is validation of a year of assiduous work with the Law School, our external partners and the committee. Throughout secondary school the principle of holistic development was always stressed, I am proud to have taken that to heart, and to have diversified my university experience by means of 2 years of involvement with a society centred on giving back to the community.’

11 individual award categories make up the LawCareers.net Student Law Society Awards, which showcases the hard work of student law society members in providing their peers with the best socials, careers events, and pro bono and mooting activities. Nominated societies were selected from the submissions of over 40 student law society committees, alongside over 1,700 votes from their members.
