Professor Eva Lomnicka gives expert opinion for Italian TV series
With the level of personal credit and the cost of borrowing a concern throughout the continent, Professor Eva Lomnicka from The Dickson Poon School of Law was invited to share her insight into the issue by an Italian economic affairs television series.
Professor Lomnicka, is an expert in financial services regulation and consumer law and is also a practising barrister. She was interviewed for "Vita fuori dall'Euro" (Life outside the Eurozone), which focuses on the UK as a major European country not part of the single currency. Professor Lomnicka provided expert analysis for two episodes which compared the personal credit market position of the UK with that of Italy.
The first programme, screened in November 2016, was concerned with payday loans and Professor Lomnicka provided commentary on how the high costs of short-term credit are regulated in the UK.
The second programme screened the following month, covered mortgages and highlighted the problems home-owners could face if there is a rise in interest rates after years of low mortgage costs. Professor Lomnicka discussed how the UK regulated the mortgage credit market in line with the Mortgage Credit Directive (which applies to all EEA countries including the UK and Italy).
The programmes are screened in Italy on Reteconomy TV, a channel devoted to business and economic news and are available to watch on their website.
