Professor Tridimas gives evidence at House of Lords Brexit: EU budget enquiry

Professor Takis TridimasThe legal framework of the European Union's finances is one of its most complex areas and will be affected profoundly by the impending exit of the United Kingdom. In preparation for the UK's departure from the EU, the House of Lords EU Financial Affairs Sub-Committee is carrying out a short inquiry into Brexit: EU budget by taking evidence from legal experts.

Professor Takis Tridimas, Director of the Centre of European Law in The Dickson Poon School of Law at King's College London was invited to provide expertise in the form of evidence to this inquiry.

Professor Tridimas answered questions on a range of topics including the extent to which the UK is legally liable for budget commitments already made; its possible liability for contributions after Brexit; the status of ongoing funding for EU pensions; the extent to which the UK owns a share of the EU’s assets; and the legal status of UK receipts from the EU budget following Brexit.

Professor Tridimas is one of a number of academics from the School invited to share their expertise with Parliament ahead of the UK's exit from the EU. Dr Holger Hestermeyer has been appointed as Specialist Advisor to the House of Lords EU External Affairs Sub-Committee and Professor Satvinder Juss recently gave evidence to the House of Commons Women & Equalities Select Committee inquiry on ‘Ensuring Strong Equalities after EU Exit’.

You can watch Professor Tridimas give evidence to the committee on the UK Parliament website.
