School agrees new partnership with HKU
The Dickson Poon School of Law has agreed a partnership with the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) which offers undergraduate LLB students at King’s College London the opportunity to complete some of their studies at HKU. LLB students from HKU will also be able to apply to undertake some of their studies at King’s.
The new LLB in English Law & Hong Kong Law will commence in the academic year 2018-2019 and is open to students enrolled on the Law LLB programme. It will allow them to obtain both an LLB and LLM qualification in three years instead of four years.
LLB students at King’s will be able to apply at the beginning of their second year, to complete their third year of study at HKU. On successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded an LLB from King’s and an LLM from HKU, completing their studies in three years. Initially the programme will be limited to three students.
On a reciprocal basis, students enrolled in the four year LLB programme at HKU may study for an LLM degree at King’s in the fourth year of their studies.
Vice Dean for International & External Relations at the School, Professor John Phillips, said: ‘The School is delighted to enter into this reciprocal agreement with the excellent Faculty of Law at HKU, which will give the best students from both universities an opportunity to study in a different legal jurisdiction and culture. It is very important to us that students have new perspectives and experiences in a world where legal problems are increasingly global in nature’
Dr Marco Wan, Associate Professor of Law & Honorary Associate Professor of English at the University of Hong Kong said: 'Students on the Pathways programme obtain a truly global legal education by spending time at both HKU and KCL. We are excited about deepening our ties with the Dickson Poon School of Law through the programme, and look forward to taking our international collaborations to the next level'.
The partnership with Faculty of Law at HKU further broadens the international outlook of the School, which enjoys strong collaborative links with other prestigious law schools, thinks tanks and law firms across the world.
The School enjoys a similar partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS), for an LLB in English Law and Singapore Law. Elsewhere at undergraduate level, the School has long-established programmes in English Law & French Law and English Law & German Law with Université Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin respectively, in addition to the Law with European Studies LLB which allows students to spend one year at one of nine partner institutions. There are also opportunities to study in the US and Australia.
