School raises money for access to justice
On 22 May, a team of over 100 students and staff from The Dickson Poon School of Law joined 700 other teams from across London to take part in the annual London Legal Walk, organised the by The London Legal Support Trust. The 10km sponsored walk raises funds for free legal services in London and the South East.
Along with 12,000 other walkers the King’s team, led by Executive Dean Professor Gillian Douglas and Dickson Poon Distinguished Visitor The Rt Hon Lord Judge, took in the sights of central London in the evening sunshine. The team have raised nearly £2,000 so far.
This is the fifth year in which King’s has taken part in the Legal Walk and this year’s team was the biggest yet, with over 100 people from the School raising money.
Elizabeth Barrett, a first year LLB student and King’s Team Organiser said: ‘Not only was it a fantastic turnout and a beautifully sunny day but we raised so much money and awareness for access to justice. Personally, I am thrilled how many came out this year and we couldn't have hoped for a better event.’
Professor Gillian Douglas, Executive Dean of the School said: ‘I’m so proud of the large number of our students and staff who took part in this year’s Legal Walk. It was great fun and a wonderful demonstration of the commitment of the School to supporting legal services across London.’
This year’s walk was also the biggest yet, with 12,000 walkers taking part. The iconic 10km walk around central London is the largest fundraising event in the legal calendar. Funds raised enable the advice centres to help thousands of people including the homeless, housebound elderly, victims of domestic violence and people trafficking and many more.
