Professor elected president of Cambridge college

Professor Richard Hooley, who teaches Commercial Banking Law on the LLM and contract law and commercial law on the LLB, will take up the position at Fitzwilliam College on 1 October 2013.

The president’s role is to deputise for the Head of House at Fitzwilliam College in case of absence or illness. The office is unremunerated and is held for four years.

Richard said, 'I am honoured to have been elected by the Fellows, especially as they know that my duties at King's take priority. The role is essentially a social one, hosting dinners and alumni events, but the President also acts as a sounding board for Fellows should they require impartial advice'.

Professor Hooley took up his chair at King’s College London in 2003. His main research interests lie in the fields of contract, commercial and banking law, and he is probably best known for his work in the areas of payment and payment systems.

He is particularly interested in the issues thrown up by new forms of electronic payment and the way the courts have used principles of English common law to deal with them.
