Festive Feedback Trees - update
In December and January students across the university entered into the festive spirit by adding comments to tags on our library Christmas trees. This annual tradition offers a chance to share feedback in a quick and informal way. Thank you to everyone who took the time to take part. We read all of your comments with interest and are pleased to share some of the highlights with you.
As the weather turned wintry and many of you hunkered down to study for exams or work on essays, thoughts inevitably turned to creature comforts. The majority of your comments focused on food and drink and included a call for ' ...more food and drinks options' and 'Bigger coffees'. We've passed your comments to our colleagues in King's Food.
A number of students were feeling the chill with lots of comments focusing on temperature. While some were too cold: 'Turn the heating on in Winter' and ‘Library blankets', others were too warm and called for 'ceiling fans' and windows that can be opened. We've passed all of your comments about temperature to our colleagues in King's Estates.
Continuing the cosy winter theme, one student wanted more festive decorations while others were hoping for larger scale redecoration with requests for 'black chairs in group study rooms' and '...carpets and paintings and wooden shelves/desks'. We've shared your thoughts with our staff who are constantly working to improve library spaces and study areas.
Some students were keen to spend awhile in the library and asked for a '24/7 service’. Happily, a number of our libraries are currently open 24/7; all the details are on our Opening hours page.
It wasn't all about nesting though, a number of you were focused on your study and information needs. There were a couple of requests for room numbers to be added to the library catalogues to make it easier to find books. While it's not possible to add this as a quick fix, we are working on improving the functionality of Library Search this year.
Some students were definitely in a party mood and shared some inventive ideas. The honorary award for the most optimistic request goes to the student hoping for a karaoke room!
A final thank you to all those students who passed on positive feedback about library staff and our services in general. It's always helpful to receive your feedback but we're delighted to hear when we're getting it right: 'Very friendly service. Keep smiling', 'Thanks for all the great work' and 'The library staff rock'.
You can find our responses to common feedback themes at Common library questions and answers
We wish you all the best for your studies this year and a happy and successful 2018.
