Faculty staff, student and alumnus all named as London's most influential people

The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine congratulates three of our own in being named London’s most influential by the Evening Standard.

Professor Frank Kelly BSc, PhD, FRSA

Professor Frank Kelly holds the chair in Environmental Health at King's College London, where he is Director of the Analytical & Environmental Sciences Division. His other positions of responsibility are Director of the Environmental Research Group and Deputy Director of the MRC-PHE Centre for Environment & Health. From these dual positions he is able to combine his two main research interests, namely free radical/antioxidant biochemistry and the impact of atmospheric pollution on human health. The professor is a key figure in the battle against London’s toxic air.

IMG_0329A current fourth year medical student at the GKT School of Medical Education, Khan is head the Acts of Random Kindness project — a campaign spearheaded by the university’s Islamic society. He is also the National Director of Charity Week UK, which has raised more than £400,000 this year.

Dr Oliver Johnson

Dr Oliver Johnson has once again been named one of the most influential Londoners. Oliver worked in Freetown as the Programme Director of the King’s Sierra Leone Partnership until 2015, having previously studied Medicine at King’s College London and International Health at UCL. He began working in Sierra Leone in January 2013 to support the healthcare system in the west African nation but quickly found himself on the frontline of the Ebola outbreak. He has become a familiar voice on TV and radio, setting out in stark terms the devastation caused by the virus, and his work helped to bring the epidemic to an end.
