NIHR Senior Investigator success for the Faculty
Four academic staff from the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine have been successful in the National Institute Health Research (NIHR) 2017 Senior Investigator appointments.
The aim of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) is to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research and as such fund research at university. Senior Investigators are among the most prominent and prestigious researchers funded by the NIHR and the most outstanding leaders of patient and people-based research within the NIHR Faculty. They are appointed from NIHR investigators through annual competition.
The following staff in the Faculty have been successful:
Professors Poston (pictured) and Edwards attained Emeritus status, having succeeded twice in open competition and completed two terms as a Senior Investigator.
In addition, eight researchers from King's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience were among the 42 new senior investigator appointments.
There are currently 200 active NIHR Senior Investigators. Together members constitute the College of Senior Investigators; they act as a key source of advice to the Department of Health's Chief Scientific Adviser.
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine, Professor Richard Trembath said:
"I am delighted that four colleagues have been elected to the College of Senior Investigators. This is clear recognition of the considerable contributions all four have made and continue to make, to advancing research for patient benefit. Senior Investigators also play a critical role in supporting and furthering the broad ambitions of NIHR and having significant representation from KCL reflects the commitment we have made to both basic and translational research and accelerated complementation over the last decade."
