Kings researcher Dr Manu Shankar-Hari awarded the National Institute of Health Research Clinician Scientist Award

Dr Manu Shankar-Hari, from the School of Immunology and Microbial Sciences received the NIHR Clinician Scientist Award (NIHR-CS) to study the longer-term health care needs of adult sepsis survivors, which will run from 2017 – 2022. Dr Shankar-Hari's translational research focuses on the epidemiology and the adaptive immune system changes in sepsis survivors to inform ways to improve outcomes in this patient population. The NIHR-CS is designed to provide personal support for the winner through meeting salary and research programme costs.

We recently reported Dr Shankar-Hari was awarded the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society’s Intensive Care Global Rising Star Programme Fellowship for 2017. This makes Dr Shankar-Hari the first person in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to receive both these honours.
