A new term, and we welcome our new Dean of Medical Education for the GKT School of Medical Education

As the new academic year begins, we welcome Tim Lancaster, our new Dean of Medical Education for the GKT School of Medical Education. 

Tim is a highly experienced and innovative medical educationalist. He joins King’s from the University of Oxford where he was Director of Clinical Studies for 15 years.

As a GP and GKT Alumnus, Tim has a particular interest in case-based teaching in medical education. He trained at Guy’s Medical School, before moving to Oxford where, as a Fellow of St Anne’s College, he acted as advisor to clinical medical students.

Tim was also Co-ordinating Editor of The Cochrane Tobacco Addiction Review Group; part of The Cochrane Collaboration which produces independent systematic reviews of healthcare interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies of interventions. The Tobacco Addiction Group reviews the evidence on interventions to prevent and treat tobacco addiction, and public policy interventions to reduce smoking prevalence.

Dr Louise Dubras, who has led GKT School excellently as our Interim Dean, will now resume her former role as Deputy Dean. Both Louise and Tim will continue to progress the introduction of our new medical curriculum, as we simultaneously expand our intake of students by the proliferation of our Extended Medical Degree programme into a UK-wide programme.

The next few years promise to be exciting, challenging and rewarding, and as we welcome Tim to GKT we wish him well in his new post and promise him the support of his new colleagues in the School and across the Faculty.
