Excellence in innovation and impact

Professor Andrew Shennan and the Preterm Surveillance Clinic Team

School of Life Course Sciences

The first UK Preterm Surveillance Clinic was started in 2004 to provide care and effective screening and management of women at risk of preterm birth. Andrew has led the drive to improve preterm services across the UK, including chairing a Department of Health initiative publishing the Safer Maternity Care document, and producing new commissioning guidelines for the NHS. 

Sustainability award

Oliver Austen, MDL Technician, New Hunts House Teaching Labs

Centre for Education

Oliver developed a specialist sustainable labs group to enable lab users and technicians to build relationships, share ideas, best practice and resources. He has used the group to broaden their reach to bring sustainability to more labs. He keeps the department engaged with the Sustainability Champions scheme, helped them gain a Silver Award and recruited new Champions.

Most significant contribution to international success (Joint winner)

Dr Faheem Ahmed, Lecturer in Healthcare Entrepreneur & Innovation and King's GKT School of Medical Education graduate

Faheem has inspired and guided King’s students to become future global health leaders and social entrepreneurs. As a founding member of the global health enterprise Selfless, Faheem has led initiatives addressing inequalities for disadvantaged populations in the UK and Bangladesh. His high-impact research and innovations have enabled over 30,000 people to access essential care in low-income settings.
