Faculty celebrates International Women's Day

International Women's Day

As part of an organisation which supports the promotion of women in science, the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is planning a number of activities to mark International Women’s Day 2018.

#PressforProgress - make your pledge!

Get involved in International Women's Day. The Faculty community are invited to share a photo of themselves with the 2018 International Women's Day hashtag #PressforProgress

Your photos will feature in our gallery in both social media and online.

'Suffragette' film screening

2018 marks 100 years since women won the right to vote. Staff and students are invited to a special film screening of Suffragette at 17:00 on 8 March in Room 5.132, Franklin Wilkins Building.

Staff and students are also invited to enjoy Votes for Women, an inspiring video created by King's about the history of the suffrage movement and its relevance for gender equality today.

‘Women in Science - Our space, their legacies’ competition

As part of a more permanent recognition of the contributions of women to the Faculty, the Faculty is seeking to re-name a number of departmentally owned rooms across our campuses, after inspirational women.

Staff and students are asked to submit their suggestions of prominent women who have worked either in King’s or locally, whose work has made a historic impact in the fields of medicine and bioscience. Nominees cannot be people wo are currently employed at King’s, however they can be any women, alive or dead, whose legacy has had impact for King’s or our society/community more widely. Participants are asked to submit nominations to diversity-folsm@kcl.ac.uk by 8th April along with a statement about on why they are nominating the individual.

Winners will be chosen by members of the Faculty Diversity & Inclusion Steering Group and will be invited to a celebratory reception.
