Athena SWAN success for the Faculty

The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is delighted to announce our successful submission for an Athena SWAN Silver award. Achieving this award is a significant milestone and demonstrates our ongoing Faculty-wide commitment to achieving gender equality.

Our Faculty Silver Award builds on our Faculties Divisional action plans and awards (9 silvers, 6 bronze) and was achieved through the commitment and hard work of many across the Faculty.

Athena SWAN awards evidence progress in the advancement of gender equality, representation, progression and success for all. Our Silver award is valid until 2022 and our four-year action plan will focus on student diversity, retention and support; recruitment and induction; career development across all staff groups; flexible working and managing career breaks; and improving our organisational culture.

Professor Cathy Shanahan, Vice Dean (Development, Diversity & Inclusion) said: ‘This success is a tribute to the passion and hard work put in by many across the Faculty. We now have a fantastic platform that will enable us to move forward and create an inclusive and supportive environment for all.’
