Professor Ruth Harris joins Faculty

We are delighted to announce that Professor Ruth Harris has joined the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery this week.

Professor Harris, who worked previously in the Joint Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education based at Kingston University and St George’s Medical School, has a clinical background in acute medical nursing and care of older people. She is a King’s alumnus having completed her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees at King’s and has collaborated previously with colleagues based in the Faculty on a number of research projects.

Ruth’s research interests include the impact of nursing and multi-professional interventions on processes of care and patient outcomes. Previous studies have investigated the development and evaluation of new nursing roles and inter-professional team working.

Professor Harris said: “I’m delighted to be returning to King’s given its international reputation for excellence in both research and education. I am very excited about the opportunities to work alongside students, university colleagues and NHS colleagues to develop programmes of internationally significant research within care of older people and acute care and work collaboratively with health partners to realise the impact of this work in healthcare delivery settings. I’m keen to contribute to the planning and delivery of education to inspire the next generations of nurses, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to value, use and generate research evidence in their practice.”

The Faculty’s Executive Dean, Professor Ian Norman said: “Professor Ruth Harris has an established international reputation for excellent research, as well as being an experienced teacher at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She brings a wealth of academic, leadership and clinical experience and we are extremely pleased that she has joined us.”
