Maria Alvarez's Good Fashion Show

On Saturday 18 February, as part of London Fashion Week, Dr Maria Alvarez of the Department of Philosophy delivered a keynote presentation during a session covering themes on ‘ethics, aesthetics, sustainability, culture and fashion’ at London House, Bloomsbury.

Dr Alvarez, whose main areas of research focus on questions of agency and moral responsibility, and who teaches an undergraduate module on contemporary ethical philosophy at King’s, discussed fashion in relation to Aristotle and Aquinas’ notion of The Good, and argued that while fashion embodies many of the things that these philosophers would have considered good for human beings, it should also embody the characteristics that would be considered virtues, for example: a concern for others.

The Good Fashion Show was London Fashion Week’s largest off schedule event, and also featured a live runway show in the evening. For further information, visit the Good Fashion Show website
