Professor Albert Ferro appointed Chair of leading medical examining board

Albert Ferro, Professor of Cardiovascular Clinical Pharmacology at King’s and Honorary Consultant Physician at Guy’s and St Thomas’, has been appointed Chair of the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the UK (MRCP) Part 1 Board.

The MRCP (UK) develops and delivers examinations that are recognised around the world as benchmarks of medical knowledge and clinical skills. Doctors in the UK must pass MRCP examinations before becoming medical registrars in hospital.

Professor Ferro has been appointed as Chair of the Part 1 Board for the MRCP. As Chair, he will play a key role in setting the examinations, verifying the results and advising on issues that affect academic, operational, and policy matters.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Ferro said: “It’s a great honour to be appointed as the Chair of the MRCP Part 1 Board. The MRCP plays a crucial role in testing doctors in the UK as well as around the world, and ensures that clinical excellence is maintained by relevant and thorough examinations.”

He will take up his role on the Board on 1 August.
