Great King's Run 2016

Over 230 individual participants, including 14 teams of five got involved in the King's first ever community running event, which took place on Saturday, November 19th.

The event was hosted by the partnership between King's Sport and the King's College London Athletics Club and sponsored by King's Sport Health & Fitness.

Participants gathered at the Strand Campus quad and took part in a group warm up led by the King’s Sport team before heading off at 10am. Students, staff and people from all over London had the option of taking on a course of 5K or 10K along the Thames while showing off their Great King’s Run T-shirts. The beautiful route followed the river down to Guy’s Campus to then come back round onto the Embankment.

According to James Findon - the event coordinator and King's Athletics Club president - there was "a real team effort comprising the Athletics Club, King’s Sport and KCLSU", resulting in a high energy and successful day for everyone.

The athletics club were overwhelmed by the high attendance that the event generated and they were pleased by everyone’s attitude and energy levels! As they let us know, "everyone did really well and we look forward to working with King’s Sport on the next Great King’s Run soon!"

Following the amazing success of this first ever event, King’s Sport is now considering another Great King’s Run in late spring/summer of 2017 where participants would have the opportunity to jog London’s roads under the lovely sunshine.

Once again, King’s Sport would like to thank everyone who put on their running shoes and came along to have some fun. We would also like to give a special shout out to the fencers who had the fantastic idea of running in their kit. We must admit they looked very cool!

All in all, the Great King’s run was a day to be celebrated and a tradition to be continued - make sure you don't miss the next one!
