Efficient, low-carbon estate management cutting.
King's operations and activities can have a significant impact on local and global environments. We aim to minimise their negative effects, while strengthening our positive impact across our estate and services.
Operations at King’s encompass a diverse range of activities to deliver our targets and ambitions. Across eight priority action areas, cross-cutting action guides the work we do.
We will continue to address existing sustainability challenges, building on our progress to date, and work to meet any emerging need from our estate and community.

“To reduce the adverse environmental impact and strengthen the positive contributions of our university operations, enriching King’s reputation as a university in service of society.”
To manage our environmental impacts effectively, we operate an Environmental Management System (EMS) covering all Estates & Facilities activities across our campuses. Our EMS is certified to the ISO14001:2015 international standard by NQA and since June 2017 has included activities across all King's directly-managed campuses. The EMS is at the heart of embedding sustainability at King's, taking a holistic view of the environmental impacts and risks arising from our activities. A structured management tool, it enables us to systematically identify, evaluate, manage and improve environmental performance and practices, with continual improvement being a central theme of the system.
