Encouraging pupils from all backgrounds to aim high

As part of work to engage younger, under-represented pupils in the journey to university, King's Widening Participation department have launched Gameplan, a free website to offer interactive advice and guidance on how to access highly selective universities.

With a commitment to finding the brightest minds regardless of their background, Gameplan allows 10-14 year olds to explore university in a fun, interactive way.

Covering topics such as university study skills, financial management and subject choices, the website provides schools and parents with an innovative and unrivalled educational resource. Games, videos, animations, avatars, and leaderboards replace traditional text heavy resources, designed to engage and excite a younger group of learners.

The site features a dedicated parents’ section, offering information on how to access universities. King's Widening Participation also provides schools with an accompanying scheme of work and resource pack, enabling the site to be embedded into the curriculum. Both in and out of lesson time, the new website gives pupils the chance to explore their future options.

The website is also now partnered with 5 Multi-Academy Trusts and 154 schools who receive additional resources and free accompanying CPD.

With engagement of younger pupils an essential element of ensuring access to quality higher education for all, Gameplan will be rolled out to schools across the country this year.

For a free 5-lesson scheme of work or more information contact Joe Collin , Pre-16 Widening Participation Officer.
