President’s Global Leadership Award: Postgraduate

The President's Global Leadership Award (PGLA) is open to all current King's students studying a postgraduate course. Postgraduate taught students can take the module for formal recognition by completing three assessments. Postgraduate researcher students cannot submit assessments or receive formal recognition for this module. However, they may have opportunities to apply for a Graduate Teaching Assistant role on the module for future cohorts.

The Postgraduate PGLA is an online module with weekly webinars. Some classes are also available face-to-face at the Strand Campus, which we encourage students to join. The module aims to provide insights and conceptual understandings about global leadership.

Postgraduate Taught

Registration for Semester 1 and Semester 2 of the 2025/26 academic year is now open. To register, please complete the form here.

Registrations for Semester 1 will close on Friday 10th October 2025 at 12:00pm.

Registrations for Semester 2 will close on Friday 30th January 2026 at 12:00pm.
Late registrations will not be accepted.

All King's students on a postgraduate taught degree, in any faculty, can apply to take this module alongside their degree.

For some students, this module may be available as an 'optional module for credit' as part of your degree programme. You will know if this applies to your programme upon registration.

A weekly online module will help you to develop distinctive leadership skills in service to society, in a global context. You will reflect on your own leadership aims, identify the values that mean most to you as potential leaders, and work to put these values into practice.

Through case studies of leadership, selected readings and assessment tasks, you'll build a formidable understanding of leadership theory and practice.

The coursework includes a variety of exercises and invites you to work in a variety of formats. The result is a corpus of work that defines, analyses and evaluates leadership and demonstrates your evolving thoughts and feelings around leadership.

The Postgraduate PGLA module is equivalent to 15 credits and requires approximately 150 hours of work (15 hours per week).

By the end of the course, you will have:
> explored what it means to be a global leader in the twenty-first century.
> engaged systematically and creatively with leadership theory and practice.
> analysed and evaluated leadership as a social practice.
> developed self-direction and acted autonomously in planning and implementing leadership tasks.
> shown originality in tackling and solving leadership problems.
> demonstrated a culturally competent view of assessing global challenges.

You will submit three assessments: two 500-word reflections and a 2000-word leadership proposal. The assessment is designed to consolidate and enhance learning, exploring global leadership as a collaborative social practice.

Students must submit and pass all three assessments to achieve formal recognition of the PGLA.

Applications open annually. You can apply via the application form once it's open.

If you successfully complete the President's Global Leadership Award, it will be featured on your Higher Education Achievement Report.

You will also receive a digital credential via Accredible which can be added to your LinkedIn profile to enhance your portfolio.

Hear what Stephen has to say

Stephen Adombire (Clinical Nursing MSc, 2018) speaks about his experience undertaking the award:

"You really get to appreciate how these individuals who are or have been at the forefront of leadership practice have used some of those theories and concepts in solving real-life leadership challenges...

...so you’re really inspired by the examples and the experiences and your confidence in your own leadership abilities begins to grow."
