President’s Global Leadership Award: Undergraduate

Open to all King's students studying an undergraduate degree, the President's Global Leadership Award (PGLA) provides insights and conceptual understandings about global leadership.

Applications for 2025/26

The President’s Global Leadership Award (PGLA) will take place in Semester 2 of the 2025/26 academic year.

Applications will open on the 1st of October 2025 at 12:00pm and close on the 31st of October 2025 at 12:00pm.

If you would like to be notified when applications open, please complete this form.

Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances, so please ensure that you submit your application on time.

All King's students who have completed the first year of an undergraduate degree, in any faculty, can apply to take this course alongside their degree.

There will be four face-to-face classes (approximately two hours per class on a Wednesday afternoon), as well as the unique opportunity to participate in either a residential weekend at Cumberland Lodge or two additional leadership workshops, putting leadership learning into collaborative practice.

Please note that due to the high demand for this programme, attendance at all the sessions and the residential weekend is compulsory.

The residential weekend will take place from Friday 20th February to Sunday 22nd February 2026. We are aware that this will fall during Ramadan therefore, Cumberland Lodge will specifically cater to students observing Ramadan. If you would like further information on the catering provisions, please contact pgla@kcl.ac.uk.

Please note that students are required to self-fund their travel to and from Cumberland Lodge. We suggest taking the train from Waterloo to Egham and then a taxi from there to Cumberland Lodge. Please consider sharing taxis or Ubers to and from Egham station with your classmates.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

> demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of leadership theory and practice.

> demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of leadership within an ethical framework.

> analyse leadership as a social practice.

> apply leadership skills in individual and group tasks.

> present a leadership strategy in relation to a specific global issue, proposing solutions to problems.

There are two assessments and students must pass both assessments. There will be a 1,000-word written reflection (question provided during the course) and a 1,500-word leadership proposal at the end of the course. The assessments are designed to consolidate and enhance learning, exploring global leadership as a collaborative social practice.

Applications open annually. You can apply via the application form once it's open.

If you successfully complete the President's Global Leadership Award, it will be featured on your Higher Education Achievement Report.

You will also receive a digital credential via Accredible which can be added to your LinkedIn profile to enhance your portfolio.
