Principal’s Global Leadership Award - Undergraduate

Applications for the 22-23 Undergraduate PGLA are now closed.

King’s prides itself on creating graduates who are culturally competent, global in their outlook and confident in addressing world problems. The Principal's Global Leadership Award (PGLA) is a unique course encouraging students to engage with some of the most pressing problems of the 21st century and exploring what it means to be a global leader.

The PGLA approaches leadership from both a theoretical and practical viewpoint, challenging preconceptions and enabling students to develop distinctive leadership skills in service to global society, as well as providing insights and conceptual understandings about global leadership through reflective learning, group discussions and talks by high-profile speakers.

The PGLA will run again in term two of 2022-23. All second-year undergraduates at King’s College London are eligible to apply. The course comprises four face-to-face classes at King’s. It also offers the unique opportunity to participate in either a residential weekend at Cumberland Lodge or an away day at King’s.

Previous leaders who have taught on the PGLA include former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard; former UK Home Secretary Charles Clarke; former UK Universities Minister Lord David Willetts; former Head of OFSTED Baroness Sally Morgan; Prof Eileen Baldry from the University of New South Wales; and the first black Vice-Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, Prof Ihron Rensburg. Some PGLA students have also had the opportunity to meet visiting world leaders such as Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria, and José Ramos-Horta, former President of Timor Leste. Senior figures from King's also teach on the PGLA, including the Principal, Prof Shitij Kapur, and Vice President & Vice Principal (International) Professor 'Funmi Olonisakin.

The Principal’s Global Leadership Award reflects King’s Vision 2029 in practice.
