Project summary
See project catalogue. Please select three projects in order of preference.

The primary focus of the Centre is the exploration of the key vulnerability of a tumour: its dependence on the complex microenvironment in which it develops, progresses, and ultimately spreads. The Centre is organised into three Research Themes:

1. The Tumour Metropolis Theme focusing on the complexity of the Tumour Microenvironment

2. The Immunotherapies Theme focusing on biological interventions, including cell and antibody therapies

3. The Profiling and Imaging Theme assessing each patient’s Tumour Metropolis, generating and refining hypotheses to be tested in tumour models.

All students have at least 2 supervisors, and a wider Thesis Progression Committee, including an external advisor and two independent experts. All students will present their research in School/Division seminars as well as to their research groups. Opportunities are available for students to present their work at national and international scientific meetings. All students will have the opportunity to undertake a Core Research Skills training programme through the MRC Doctoral Training Programme. This focuses on quantitative (including statistical) skills and students will be able to choose components relevant to their specific PhD topic.

Academic requirement
Minimum Upper Second (above 60%) BSc degree in a science subject (biology, biomedical sciences, chemistry, physics or engineering) or an MSc in relevant area
