Listen to the podcast on Spotify: Golden Queers

In this edition:

In this week’s podcast episode Golden Queers, Manasi is joined by Dr Dan Bailey Consultant Geriatrician and educator at King’s College Hospital. They discuss Dan’s contribution to a specialist frailty clinic for older people living with HIV and projects exploring the care needs of older trans+ individuals.

In this episode, Dr Dan Bailey referred to the article Towards inclusive healthcare: evaluating knowledge, confidence and awareness of LGBTQ+ health among Internal Medicine Trainees in London (BMC Medical Education, 2024; doi.org/10.1186/s12909-024-05827-y).

Dr Bailey incorrectly stated that the study asked respondents a clinical question regarding a trans woman presenting with an infection, specifically: “A diagnosis of prostatitis should be considered” (true/false). This question was not included in the published study.

While the paper did assess trainees’ knowledge on a range of LGBTQ+ health topics (including trans+ health) the example given in the podcast was not among them. The example remains illustrative of the kinds of knowledge gaps that underscore the need for specialist education in LGBTQ+ health, but it does not reflect the study's actual methodology or findings.

Dr Bailey apologises for any confusion caused.
