Manasi is joined by Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck, Research Assistant Ailbhe Lawlor and Patient and Public Involvement/Engagement Manager Saran green. In this episode, ‘Women Power and Cancer’, they discuss under researched areas of women’s healthcare, lack of awareness for bladder cancer symptoms for women and how patients and carers can advise to improve healthcare and treatment experiences.

Mieke van Hemelrijck

Professor Mieke Van Hemelrijck is a Professor in Cancer Epidemiology and leads the Translational Oncology and Urology Research (TOUR) Team in the School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences at King's. As a cancer epidemiologist working with national registers and hospital-based (biobank) data in the UK and Europe, Prof Van Hemelrijck has expertise in clinical data, statistics, clinical practice and patient care in the area of uro-oncology.

Ailbhe Lawlor

Ailbhe Lawlor is a Research Assistant for the Translational Oncology and Urology Research (TOUR) team and is the research assistant for the PIONEER project. Ailbhe has a keen interest in women’s health and will begin her PhD examining the quality-of-life of women who are diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or in the first year after giving birth, in the summer of 2024.

Saran Green

Saran Green is a Patient and Public Involvement/Engagement (PPIE) Manager in the Translational Oncology and Urology (TOUR) team. She coordinates patient participation and all engagement activities for the team as well as across Guy’s Cancer. Saran supports numerous research projects and conducts varied PPIE activities at King’s College London and is a part of the King’s Engagement Research Network (KERN) and is responsible for the management of the PPIE portfolio of the Guy’s Cancer Real World Evidence (RWE) Programme.

Manasi Nandi

Reader in Integrative Pharmacology

Manasi is a scientist and educator based within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the extraction of new information from vital signs data, aiding research and clinical decision making, and identifying earlier alerts of disease. She has expertise in medicine discovery and development and the translation of laboratory findings into clinical practice. She is a fellow of the British Pharmacological Society, most recently supporting efforts to embed inclusive principles into the national curriculum. Inclusivity and accessibility are at the core of her teaching and research practice. She is the Development, Diversity and Inclusion lead for the School and Cancer and Pharmaceutical Science, supporting EDI activities at Faculty and College level. She launched the Humanising Healthcare seminar series in 2023.
