Laura is a PhD candidate and research fellow at the Transnational Law Institute. She holds degrees in Law and Social Sciences from the University of Bern and the London School of Economics. Her PhD explores the regulatory frameworks that govern the intersections between multinational enterprises and society in the global extractive industry. For her research, she conducted a multi-sided ethnography in the Colombian coal mining region in order to examine the everyday life at the societal boundaries of a mine. Her research interests lie in the study of company law, corporate governance (in particular with regards to potential tort creditors), social theory and legal ethnography.

Before joining King’s College London, Laura worked for the Swiss human rights organisation humanrights.ch and was a research assistant at the Political Science Institute of the University of Bern and the Institute for Social Planning, Organisational Change and Urban Development of the University of Applied Sciences of North-West Switzerland.

Laura’s Bachelor thesis that examined the ‘on the ground’ impact of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights was published by the peace research institute swisspeace. She is a collaborator of the Swiss foreign policy think tank foraus and councillor of UK’s open forum for policy Agora. In that capacity, Laura has published widely on EU-Swiss relations, migration and corporate governance. She has also contributed to the LSE Brexit blog and the King’s College Department of War Studies Strife blog.

Laura co-convenes the Latin American Anthropology Seminar series, a forum for researches on Latin America to present and discuss their work. For further information please see: https://anthropologyseminarilas.blogs.sas.ac.uk/.  She also co-organises the Dickson Poon School of Law’s socio-legal studies reading group and the Transnational Law Institute’s signature lectures.
