Open Access

Publisher Deals

King's has arranged deals with the following publishers to reduce the cost of APC payments. Some may be of use to authors not funded by COAF health charities or UKRI councils. For more help, please email openaccess@kcl.ac.uk.

Biomed Central
BMC Pre-pay Account

APC discount = 20%

Pre-payment discount applies only when the university agrees to meet the cost of the article from the grants provided by the COAF and/or UKRI consortia (apply here before submission to confirm funds could be used on your paper). Eligible authors will be given a code by the Library Research Support team to pass to BMC.

BMJ
BMJ Pre-pay Account

APC discount = 15%

Pre-payment discount applies only when the university agrees to meet the cost of the article from the grants provided by the COAF and/or UKRI consortia (apply here before submission to confirm funds could be used on your paper). Eligible authors will be given a code by the Library Research Support team to pass to BMJ.

Elsevier

Elsevier Pre-pay Account
APC discount = 10%

Pre-payment discount applies only when the university agrees to meet the cost of the article from the grants provided by the UKRI consortia (apply here before submission to confirm funds could be used on your paper). Eligible authors will be confirmed as such with Elsevier's pre-pay account team.

Karger Discount

APC discount - 50%

This discount applies to article processing charges for King's authors whose papers appear in Karger open access titles.


Royal Society

Royal Society Discount

APC discount = 25%

All authors affiliated to King's should receive this discount.

   Sage

Sage Nesli2 Scheme

APC discount = cost reduced to £200 before publication (£400 after)

For titles within the Sage Choice Scheme or the Sage Premier Scheme, King's authors are entitled to a discounted APC rate of £200 prior to publication. (If the paper has already published, the cost is discounted to £400 instead.) Claim this discount by entering ‘NESLi16’ in the 'University/Institution Account Code' field when requesting the Sage Choice option. This is a voucher scheme, and as such only a certain number of discounted APC are available each year.

  
SpringerCompact

Springer Compact 

APC = free

Applies to Springer 'Open Choice' titles: the majority of Springer's subscription journals (see the hybrid journal list for an up to date indication of their Open Choice titles). An agreement is in place which means that King's authors can currently publish open access articles in Springer Compact titles without charge. Be aware that your affiliation is checked. 


Taylor & Francis

Taylor & Francis

APC discounted to £450

Whenever a King's author submits an article to Taylor & Francis, they should recieve a message advising them that they may be eligible to a discount on their APC as a result of their institutions subscription arrangements. The will be asked to contact apc@tandf.co.uk. This is a voucher scheme and as such only a certain number of discounted APCs are available each year.


Wiley

Wiley Pre-pay Account

APC discount = 25%

Pre-payment discount applies only when the cost of the article is met from the UKRI or COAF block grants. King’s authors acknowledging UKRI or COAF can select 'KCL' when submitting to a Wiley Open Access journal or opting for OnlineOpen.
