Biography
Cathy is a public health doctor with experience in public health policy, strategy, and systems management. She also has a background in health advocacy, communications and media gained from several years working in health journalism.
Cathy gained a Master’s Degree in Public Health (Nottingham 1998), completed specialist training in Public Health in 2002 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health in 2006. She has worked for local and regional health authorities in NHS roles and for the Department of Health and Public Health England.
Cathy has long standing interests in health inequalities, access to health and healthcare and health system strengthening. She first became involved with King’s Centre for Global Health and Health Partnerships as a volunteer working with the national health system regulatory body in Somaliland. A major focus of her current work is supporting implementation of ‘Prepared for Practice’, an initiative to improve health professionals education in Somaliland which is part of the Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education, Innovation and Reform (SPHEIR) programme funded by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
