Biography
Dr. Chen is a visiting research associate from Shanghai Tongji hospital and Tongji University in China. She will be studying in the group of Rocio Sancho and Xianghua Li from April 2026 to April 2027.
Her research mainly focuses on epigenetics, molecular biology, stem cells and organoids. Dr. Chen will study the NGN3 variants in hiPSC-derived pancreatic cells. In detail, a pooled ssDNA library will be transfected with Cas9-sgRNA plasmids into hiPSCs. Edited cells will be expanded and differentiated into progenitors. They will be sorted and sequenced to quantify variant enrichment. This high-throughput approach will enable the classification of variant effects in pancreas development on a large scale to benchmark clinical variants.
Research

Genetic Variation & Synthetic Function Group
At the Genetic Variation & Synthetic Function Group, we explore how changes in our DNA influence gene function and contribute to human disease.

Sancho Lab
Our main goal in the Sancho lab is to decipher the fundamental regulatory networks involved in pancreatic cell fate decisions using adult and iPSCs derived organoids, and to apply this knowledge to new strategies in regenerative medicine for diabetes.
