Biography
Professor Claire Lomax has extensive experience working within clinical psychology training, having led the programme at Newcastle University and as a research tutor at University of Bath.
She works clinically and undertakes research into Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Hoarding Disorder.
At Newcastle, Claire led an on-site campus clinic offering evidence-based psychological therapy (CBT) to their students. As the first UK University to develop this service, students were treated for anxiety, trauma or depression, providing an early intervention to enable students to return to activities including education. In 2019 the Clinic won The Times Higher Education Award Outstanding Support for Students and The Guardian Student Experience Award.
Claire managed and led the psychological profession training programmes at Newcastle University, creating the Psychological Therapies Clinical Training and Research Unit as a single entity to align NHS commissioned programmes and the Therapies Clinic, sharing specialist expertise and resources.
Claire is a trustee for the Clearing House for Postgraduate Courses in Clinical Psychology, an institution which serves UK Universities by acting as the central point for applications to the programmes. The charity works closely with the clinical psychology training community, applicants and NHS commissioners and is leading research into workforce planning.
