Professor of Cancer Genomics
Professor Francesca Ciccarelli is a Professor of Cancer Genomics within the Comprehensive Cancer Centre. She graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Bologna and received a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Heidelberg. She worked under the supervision of Peer Bork at the EMBL where she studied the evolution of genomes using comparative genomics and phylogenetics.
In 2005, Francesca started her own group at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan. In 2014, she moved to King’s College London and since 2017 her group is seconded to the Francis Crick Institute in London. She is theme co-lead of the Cancer Research UK KHP Centre and of the City of London Major Centre. Francesca works with a multidisciplinary team of biologists, mathematicians, oncologists, engineers and computer scientists who apply molecular genetics, data analysis and theoretical modelling to study cancer biology.
CNES acts as an international hub for cross-disciplinary research in non-equilibrium science.
The Programme in GI Cancer focuses on GI tract diseases, mostly cancer and oesophago-gastric cancer. This group spans a broad field of interests, promoting collaborative working within KCL, nationally and internationally.
We study the drivers of cancer evolution from early transformation to response to therapy through the integration of computational and wet-lab approaches.
Researchers at King's College London and the Francis Crick Institute have revealed the complex interactions between cancer and the immune cells that surround...
A team of researchers from the Schools of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences and Immunology and Microbial Sciences and the Cancer Systems Biology laboratory at...
Colorectal cancer is the cancer of the colon or rectum, which typically affects older adults but can occur at any age.
Scientists have identified novel oncogenes in oesophageal cancer patients.
This month we had a chat with Professor Francesca Ciccarelli, who is currently seconded at the Francis Crick Institute. We asked Francesca a variety of...
