Biography
Hélène Butz joined King's College London Language Centre in 2011. She completed her MA in English Linguistics, Literature and Civilisation (2002) at Université Charles de Gaulle, France and a further MA in Science of Language (2008) at the Université Stendhal, France. She speaks, French, English and German and is a Higher Education Fellow. Hélène teaches both general and specialised French across all levels of Undergraduate and Postgraduate modules. With over 15 years of experience in Higher Education, she also contributes as a teacher trainer on the PGCE Pedagogical Grammar programme. Having completed most of her own studies via distance learning, she places a strong emphasis on autonomous learning, which forms a cornerstone of her teaching philosophy. Her approach promotes learner independence, cultivates critical thinking, and maximises student engagement. During her second MA, with a specialisation in pedagogical engineering, she developed expertise in designing guided learning pathways. She supports students in their linguistic exploration and helps them build communicative confidence and freedom.
Research, Scholarly projects and Academic Awards
In recent years, Hélène has focused part of her research on traumatic memory, exploring the use of storytelling, creative writing, and drawing within a psychopathological framework of trauma management. Central to her projects is the wish to contribute to the empowerment of women and ethnic and sexual minorities who have remained invisible in French and Francophone literature, using their work as communicative springboards.
