Course Overview
This Executive Course equips participants with a firm grounding in the law and practice of international commercial arbitration. The course is taught by an international faculty of well-known arbitration experts. Every session will feature leading academics at King’s College London as well as prestigious arbitration practitioners from around the globe (see list of speakers below). This combined format offers attendants rigorous conceptual teaching with a practical and hands-on perspective.

Course features
The Executive Course on International Commercial Arbitration covers all the stages of arbitration proceedings from drafting agreements through to enforcement and recognition of arbitral awards. The course adopts an international approach, looking at common concepts, rules and practices in arbitration across the globe. It is therefore useful to professionals working in any jurisdiction in the field of international commerce or dispute resolution.
Delivered in small groups, this course allows constant discussion and networking among attendants. A guest practitioner features every week, allowing participants direct access to world leaders in the field, through teaching and through the allocated networking time.
The Executive Course will run online in intensive 3-hour sessions on Fridays, during a 6-week period. This format will allow our attendants to combine their professional commitments with obtaining executive legal education at one of the leading law schools in the world.
The course is endorsed by the International Bar Association (IBA) and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), and is CPD Accredited.
Learning outcomes
On completion, you will have complete familiarity with the practice of international commercial arbitration and the relevant laws, international treaties and rules that govern it, including:
- How to draft an arbitration agreement.
- How to choose the seat of arbitration.
- How to select an arbitrator.
- How to obtain interim relief in arbitration.
- How to run an arbitration proceeding.
- How to present evidence in arbitration.
- How to challenge an arbitral award.
- How to enforce an arbitral award and alternative means of monetary satisfaction.

King’s Executive course on International Commercial Arbitration law is a comprehensive training delivered by an excellent faculty of academic and practising lawyers.

Entry Requirements
The course is designed for professionals at an early and middle stage of their careers who would like to equip themselves with the key notions of international arbitration law and practice.
The course is suited to professionals in private practice, in the public sector and in-house counsel, and advanced students at postgraduate level.
The number of students is capped to facilitate interaction between the participants in the course.
You should have a degree in Law (or another subject plus the conversion course) or Professional legal experience is recommended but not compulsory. Previous participants in the course include lawyers, public officials, bank managers, accountants and engineers. Given that the course covers the law and practice of arbitration, participants without a legal education background need to be interested in legal affairs. They will be provided with recommended introductory readings to help them feel more comfortable with the course material.
English proficiency is a key requirement. The course is suitable for those taught in English up to a degree level or who use English as their working language.

- 11.30-12.30: Seminar
- 12.30-12.45: Break and introductory discussion with guest speaker
- 12.45-13.45: Seminar delivered by a guest speaker.
- 13.45-14.00: Break and follow up networking discussion with guest speaker
- 14.00-15.00: Seminar
Attending a virtual course with The Dickson Poon School of Law
This course is delivered online and live in our virtual classroom and so participants must be available to attend all the sessions at the published times to participate. You will be supported to participate, interact and network with other professionals.
Please note that all times are local to London, UK (BST). Participants based outside of the UK must ensure they can join the virtual classroom at the published course times.
What equipment do I need?
To participate, you need a stable internet connection and a computer or laptop with a camera and microphone. You will be sent full joining instructions for your course prior to the first session and our programme team will be available to assist with questions.
