Course overview
The module enables practitioners to identify actual and potential risk factors for infection in patients/clients in differing clinical settings and relate these to implementation of appropriate infection control strategies. A review of infection prevention and control practices in light of the current research knowledge base including current changes in health care provision and the implications for the management of infection. The module also enables practitioner to develop knowledge of microbiological and immunological principles and their application to patient care together with contributory factors involved in patterns of hospital and community acquired infection. Practitioners will further develop competency regarding the impact of infection control measures for patients, their families and clinical staff.
