The Student Life Content Creators programme is a fantastic way to get more involved in the student community at King’s while gaining valuable work experience. This programme aims to spotlight student voices by providing students with the necessary training, support and platform to create and publish their own content across channels such as the Student hub, Student News, and the Student App.

I’m Neha, a third-year Philosophy & Modern Languages student.

And I’m Michelle, a Master’s student in the Department of Social Sciences and Public Health, studying Global Health, Social Justice and Public Policy.

We joined this programme because it gave us a creative outlet, an employable skillset and an opportunity to meet new people.

Michelle and I caught up with each other to reminisce about our favourite memories from the programme, our growth as content creatives and why you should take the opportunity to apply.

Before passing the torch to the new cohort of Content Leads, we wanted to pause, reconnect, and reflect on our experiences together and share them with you, our future content creators.

What first drew you to the Student Life Content Creators programme?

Michelle: What initially inspired me to get involved was the opportunity to gain work experience in something completely new, with a schedule that was fully flexible for me.

Neha: I discovered the programme through an article written by Alex Cramp who was one of the Student Content Officers in the team. It shed a new light on the impact that content creation could have both in my life and in others’ (And just a few months later, I was interviewing them for my own article!).

Did you need any special skills or experience before joining?

Michelle: No, as long as you know how to use a computer, you’re fine. The only real requirement is a willingness to try and to learn.

Neha: Agreed. Everything we needed to know, we learned along the way through training sessions, mentorship and first-hand experience.

What did the role involve?

Michelle: The role involved signing up for briefings whenever I had the capacity, communicating with the team, and occasionally pitching ideas. Most of my time was spent building rapport with my team, writing creatively, and conducting research to support what I was going to write.

Neha: We each worked on around 1-3 pieces of content a month, ranging from informative short-form videos to listicles to interview pieces. Some content ideas were pre-planned by the SCM team and passed onto us to bring to life, others we conceptualised ourselves. Regardless, we always worked closely with one another to execute a shared vision for each piece, making edits to improve our drafts and implementing their feedback at every step along the way.

What’s been your most memorable or fun moment as a Content Creator?

Michelle: My most memorable moment was interviewing people during the winter graduations. Listening to their experiences and future aspirations was deeply inspiring.

Neha: I really enjoyed our copywriting workshop with A Thousand Monkeys, a professional copywriting agency. I remember we played a game called “From craplines to strap lines” in which we had 10 minutes to transform a boring article title into a fun one, but 80 times, and using 8 literary & persuasive techniques. It was fun, memorable, and an enriching way to learn about grabbing a reader’s attention. To this day, I still think back to some of those techniques when I’m writing.

How has the programme helped you grow personally or professionally?

Michelle: The programme has helped me build a portfolio for the future and develop new skills, while also giving me confidence in my own creativity and ideas.

Neha: Same here, this programme helped me find my voice in writing. I learned to effectively communicate ideas I was passionate about while developing transferrable skills.

Why should you apply?

Michelle: If you’re new to King’s, I’d definitely recommend joining. It’s a flexible opportunity that lets you meet people from different courses, while still balancing your academic workload and keeping on top of deadlines.

Neha: This programme was full of firsts for me: first time getting published online, first time interviewing someone, and first time getting paid to edit videos – something I’ve long enjoyed. It’s a great stepping stone for future opportunities, and the support you’ll receive by the Student Content Management Team along with the creative liberty you’ll be granted in each project will make for an amazing experience.

Apply by Sunday 5 October 2025 on King's CareerConnect. In order to apply, you'll need to have a registered account to submit your application. If you don't have one yet, make sure you register first.
