The STEM Education Teacher Scholarship is funded by Wipro Limited, a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company.

Wipro highly value STEM educators seeing them as key to the future of innovative STEM learning in schools.

The scholarship is available to students studying on the MA in STEM Education programme who are working in a state-funded school in England (e.g. comprehensive, academy, free school). This includes primary, secondary and FE-levels. They should be a specialist teacher in: Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Design & Technology or Geography and have been teaching for a minimum of 6 months on application. Applicants from those currently completing PGCE programmes will not be considered.

Award value

13 scholarships will be available to those commencing their studies in September 2024, for the duration of your studies (max. two years, part-time).

The scholarship will be 70% of the total fees.

The scholarship will be paid directly to support tuition fees only. Please note any residual fee balance will still need to be met by the recipient.

The scholarship is only for students paying home tuition fees.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered for a scholarship, on time of application, applicants must:

• Work in a state-funded school in England (e.g. comprehensive, academy, free school). Including, primary, secondary and FE-levels.

• Be a specialist teacher in: Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Design and Technology or Geography.

• Have been teaching for a minimum of 6 months on application.

• Have submitted an application for the MA in STEM Education.

A reference of support should accompany the application from a senior staff member outlining the benefits they envisage and the nature of the support they are offering (e.g. financial, study support);

Where more applications are received than scholarships available, preference will be given to applicants showing evidence of:

• A persuasive rationale of the potential impact attending the MA programme could have on their professional practice and/or on their department and/or school. A persuasive rational might also include the potential merit that receiving the award would bring reflecting on their past experiences and successes. For example, how completing the programme might benefit their own practice, that of their department, their school and/or the wider STEM education community.

Several scholarships will be ring-fenced for teachers working in state schools in the Education Investment Areas identified as cold spots in the 2022 government's Levelling Up white paper.

The 55 areas selected as Education Investment Areas to raise school standards include Bedford, Blackpool, Bolton, Bradford, Bury, Cambridgeshire, Central Bedfordshire, Cornwall, County Durham, Coventry, Darlington, Derby, Derbyshire, Doncaster, Dorset, Dudley, East Sussex, Halton, Hartlepool, Isle of Wight, Kirklees, Knowsley, Leeds, Lincolnshire, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Norfolk, North Northamptonshire, North Somerset, North Yorkshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Oldham, Peterborough, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Rochdale, Rotherham, Salford, Sandwell, Sefton, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, South Tyneside, St. Helens, Stoke-on-Trent, Suffolk, Sunderland, Swindon, Tameside, Wakefield, Walsall and Wirral.

To be considered in this category applications should indicate the geographical regions of the school they are working in.

Where scholarship offers are made to students holding conditional offers, receipt of the scholarship will be dependent on the student meeting their offer conditions.

NB. Where more applications are received than bursaries available, CRESTEM specialist subject areas will receive a minimum number of bursaries.

The deadline for applications is 23:59 Monday 24th June 2024. 

Where necessary, for example where scholarships have been allocated to students holding a conditional offer, a waiting list will be maintained in case conditions are not met.
