Course essentials

This course is ideally suited to dentists who are registered with their local dental council or authority and in general dental practice with a desire to study a comprehensive, contemporary and structured evidence-based approach to aesthetic treatment.

Our course director and academic lead, Dr Shamir Mehta, has helped many dental graduates, both nationally and internationally, to achieve their postgraduate goals, broadening their horizons and delivery of oral health care.

  • You will explore all aspects of smile design, from non-invasive to full coverage techniques involving a range of aesthetic materials. Topics covered include (but not limited to), smile design, occlusion, tooth whitening, direct composite restorations, removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics to include crowns, bridges and veneers, tooth wear management, and orthodontics and periodontology in relation to aesthetic-restorative dentistry.
  • You will study all restorative aspects applicable to aesthetic dentistry with an emphasis on functional stability, predictability and longevity of the aesthetic outcome.
  • The curriculum also includes comprehensive diagnosis, treatment planning, prevention, occlusion, minimal intervention techniques and ethical marketing.

Intensive face-to-face teaching blocks
Delivered primarily online, the course also provides 21 days of intensive teaching and practical training in London. Our expert tutors will give you guidance on complex dental procedures at our specialist postgraduate teaching centre, LonDEC, situated at our Waterloo Campus, which offers state-of-the-art dental training facilities.

The face-to-face component normally takes place over seven consecutive days in Year 1, seven consecutive days in Year 2 and seven consecutive days in Year 3. These blocks are an invaluable way to consolidate learning and progress through the three years.
