Strand Campus
Strand Campus sits along the Thames at London's cultural heart. Alongside world-class teaching spaces, students enjoy access to the pedestrianised Strand Quad, with Somerset House and iconic landmarks just steps away.
Film Studies at King’s is internationally recognised as a leading department in the field of film and media studies. Our reputation attracts pre-eminent research and teaching staff from around the world (including North America, South Africa, Korea, India, Australia, Spain and Hong Kong), and our curriculum has strengths in world cinema, artist film and video, creative practice, and other screen media.
The MA Film Studies offers an extensive range of options taught by subject specialists, covering key areas of film and media including film theory, style, representation, spectatorship, philosophy, and critical media practice (filmmaking). You'll develop advanced analytical, critical, and creative skills while engaging with film across diverse historical, cultural, and global contexts.
Located in the centre of London, our proximity to BFI Southbank (including the BFI Reuben Library), Southbank Centre, and Tate Modern means you will be studying film in the heart of one of the world’s leading cultural capitals, with access to exceptional resources. Our London Film Cultures module, for example, directly engages with this vibrant cultural landscape.
The MA is ideal preparation for careers in the media, arts, and cultural industries, as well as for doctoral study and further academic research.

My years of watching, thinking, arguing and writing about cinema were hugely formative for me and I am indebted to the fully rounded academic experience I had at King's for equipping me with the rhetorical tools, the taste and the patience that has made entering the worlds of cinema programming, acquisitions and now film festivals such a blast

We host a prestigious series of cutting-edge research seminars, guest lectures, and conferences every year, welcoming experts from around the world.
Opportunities for creative practice in digital video and sound are also available, using professional 4K DV cameras, audio equipment, and editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Pro Tools.
