The Natural Sciences degree is a high-quality, modern education programme with an emphasis on the power of interdisciplinary and creative, innovative thinking and scientific problem solving. The degree draws on the strengths in science education and interdisciplinary research at King’s College London and will cover the spectrum of subjects across the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, computation, mathematics and physics), and with training in entrepreneurship skills.
The programme is designed to train graduates with knowledge and applied understanding of principles of interdisciplinary sciences crossing traditional subject boundaries and skilled in finding solutions using cross-disciplinary approaches based on research and evidence, which will enhance their employability in a wide variety of careers of scientific and societal importance, including emerging and future industries that address major global challenges: Net Zero, sustainability, green growth, and the environment.

I am very excited about the Natural Sciences degree programme at King's, which will provide an interdisciplinary education allied to the research at King's, and span the sciences from biosciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computational methods.

Interdisciplinary science is regarded as vital for addressing the world’s challenges - with some of the most exciting research and innovation happening at the interface of scientific disciplines. Our course aims to build deep understanding of how disciplines intersect, and fosters critical thinking, creativity, and a broader perspective on tackling problems.
In your first year, you will build a strong foundation in the core natural sciences disciplines - biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, including facilitating your cross disciplinary thinking. This will be complemented by learning coding and experimental laboratory skills. You will apply your learning through project work, and oral and poster presentation skills. In addition, you will be tutored by some of King’s most pioneering interdisciplinary scientists who will share insights from their groundbreaking research – from new medical therapies to engineering enzymes that degrade plastics – inspiring your own innovative thinking.
Years 2 and 3 will continue to develop your skills in strong mathematical and analytical skills for complex problem solving. You will study thematic modules including Multiscale Approaches to Life and Health, AI and Big Data, Complex Systems, Building Blocks of Life, and Quantum Process and Technologies, alongside modules to develop your experimental skills and support your personal development.
The fourth year builds naturally on the first three, giving you the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you have developed to a substantial, advanced interdisciplinary research project. Working independently for up to six months, you will bring together what you have learned across the programme and see its practical application in tackling a challenging, open-ended problem. This experience will allow you to develop your independence, creativity and innovative thinking while taking your learning to the next level.
Throughout your four years of study, you will have the opportunity to develop a personal development plan – where you can record the portfolio of skills and tools you’ve acquired and reflect on your learning and self-development. This will help enhance your CV and prepare you for the world of work.
