Research Interests and PhD supervision
  • Digital humanities, specifically its day-to-day interrelations with the disciplines of the humanities and interpretative social sciences and its long-term intellectual borrowings from all older disciplines
  • Interdisciplinary research in practice
  • History and philosophy of the sciences

The subject of my research is the digital humanities, hence Humanities Computing (2005). More recently I have been working on the historiography of computing and the history of literary computing from 1949 to 1991 (when the Web was released to the public), with long looks both before and after.

Willard welcomes applications for PhD topics related to any of his research interests.
