Dr Michael Popham

External Examiner for the MA in Digital Asset and Media Management

Popham-headshotBiography
I am currently Head of Digital Collections and Preservation Services at the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford. However, I have been involved with the creation, management, and preservation of all types of assets within the Digital Humanities for three decades. My previous roles have included Head of the Oxford Digital Library, and Head of the Arts & Humanities Data Service Centre for Literature, Languages, and Linguistics. My academic career began with the study of English and American Literature, but I later switched to literary linguistics and subsequently undertook research in computer science. I have a particular interest in the production and transmission of textual sources, and the implications of the shift from manuscript and print production to born digital materials. I endeavour to make an active contribution to the preservation and dissemination of our digital and digitized cultural heritage, for the benefit of current and future generations of researchers.
