Title
Scandinavian manuscript fragments from the period c. 1000-1300 AD, with a particular focus on the Norwegian fragments and how these can be studied in order to explore ecclesiastical connections between England and Norway.
Supervisor
Dr Peter Stokes
Funding
The studentship is part of the Digital Resource for Palaeography project headed by Dr Peter Stokes and which is funded by the European Research Council.
Research
My research focuses on Medieval manuscripts from Scandinavia which are almost entirely fragmentary. My two main research aims are firstly to explore how digital palaeography can be used in relation to the Scandinavian fragments and whether digital approaches can add to our understanding. Secondly, I will investigate how the fragments can be used to study connections between England and Scandinavia in the period c. 1000-1300 and what the manuscripts can reveal about scribal cultures and ecclesiastical links between these areas.
